Within the framework of “DATA. Data for Accountable and Transparent Action,” a small grant project “Youth Participation in Policy Development” is being implemented in Eghegis community of Vayots Dzor marz, under the leadership of the training course participant Astghik Markosyan.

The aim of the project is to promote the cooperation of the residents, especially the youth in Yeghegis community with the local self-government bodies, by conducting training courses on local government և local government legislation in 12 settlements of the community, to promote citizens’ participation in local self-government. In Shatin community 17 young people participated in the regular training, and got acquainted with the principles of local self-government formation, the local government system, the mechanisms of using the official website of the community, the ways of participation, etc.

According to the participants, the awareness is very low in the communities; they suggest that the representatives of the local self-government, the members of the council of elders meet regularly with the residents, present the opportunities to cooperate with the local self-government, to participate in self-government. New meetings and initiatives are planned within the framework of the program.
